Joe FAVALARO is a canadian screenwriter, NOVELIST, POET AND PUNK MUSICIAN based in Hamilton, ontario.

A graduate of Toronto Film School’s Writing for Film & Television Program, Joe's focus is on crafting visceral and vulnerable, character-driven HORROR features.

He is a two-time Script Pipeline Screenwriting Quarterfinalist, Nicholl Fellowship quarterfinalist, and slamdance semifinalist, among other accolades. He has an option agreement with a veteran American director/producer duo who released a horror film through Paramount in 2023. 

His psychological horror feature, THE BLACK DOG, is Recommended on The Black list Website (8’s and 9/10) and was short listed for the black list feature lab in 2023.

PARK BENCHES, the short film he Co-wrote with Berlin-based filmmaker, Dan BRAGA Ulvestad is currently in post-production.

Before finding his passion for writing for film, he published A dystopian fiction novel and several books of poetry under the pseudonym ‘JOE STRAYNGE’ through various underground Los Angeles publishers. His punk band, banned together, released their debut record in 2023. He is a journalism school dropout.

He was born & raised in Burlington, Ontario, a city known only for briefly harbouring Jim Carrey and Ryan Gosling.
